The Curse Returns or Another Chat With Dawn Kurtagich

Dawn Kurtagich, our Heroine of Horror, seriously curses every single episode she's on with us. It's the Curse of Dawn. Luckily all audio somehow survived the curse this time, but then everything else started breaking and all I wanted to do was cry. It was worth it though. So, let's begin this blog post...

In this week's episodes (!) yes, there are two, we talk about The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich, then have an extended length chat with her about her books and about a whole lot of other weird stuff. She's perfect in every way and we love her.

As you might recall, we've partially covered The Dead House before on the show, but that was way back in episode 3 and, really, no one needs to go back that far. Those first episodes were the worst. As part of our Wash, Rinse, Repeat book club challenge, we're covering this one again, but with lots more detail this time. So, what's this book about?

On February 2, 2005, Elmbridge High burned down. Three people died in the blaze and one student went missing. There is suspicion that Kaitlyn Johnson was responsible for the fire; however, no such student exists. Who is Kaitlyn Johnson? Where is her sister, Carly? Medical files, police reports, transcribed video footage and diary entries tell the story of the bizarre rituals and chaos that led up to what became known as The Johnson Incident.

It's so good, especially the audio! I can't help but shout about it all the time. It's one of my most favorite books and I get something different out of it each time I read it. Definitely stop what you're doing and get this book right now! The book itself is full of photos and doodles and files and diary entries and it's so well put together. The audiobook is narrated by Charlotte Parry and Christian Coulson and produced by Elece Green. It's seriously one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to and that's saying something.

Here's a recording picture with our lovely guest, Dawn Kurtagich. She has challenged me to create a video for my cosplay picture this week and perhaps bringing my cosplay pictures to Instagram Reels or to TikTok. Would you be interested in that? My horrible black mouth is a cosplay test for this week. Beautiful, no?

Seriously, what do you think about Book Character Cosplay TikTok? I need to know.

Amanda
