In our episode this week, Claire and I talk about an adorably precious graphic novel all about vegetables and a vampire, Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen.
You may find it odd that I am describing a book as adorably precious considering that's exactly why I don't love Heartstopper (I mean, it's delightful, don't get me wrong), but this one has VEGETABLES and a VAMPIRE. If you know me at all, you know, one, ALL VAMPIRES ALL THE TIME, and two, I LOVE VEGGIES. I even have a carrot collection, but for more on that, you'll have to listen to the episode.
This book is all about Garlic and her friends, namely Carrot, who work with Witch Agnes to grow veggies to sell to the townsfolk, but one day, there is smoke coming from the chimney of the spooky castle. Witch Agnes says there's nothing to worry about because it could just be a traveler... or it could be a VAMPIRE! Gasp! Celery, who is not a nice vegetable at all, suggests that Garlic should be the one to investigate the spooky castle because if a vampire is there, she will be the only one who can stop him. Is that true though? Does Garlic become Garlic the Vampire Slayer? Listen to our episode, read the book and check out our summary for all the details. You for sure need to read the book though because the illustrations are so whimsical and fun.
Until next time,
Amanda
